About The Artwork

I felt that the original photograph I made of this part of the London skyline lent itself to the process of solarisation, and so experimented with this approach to achieve my image. I like the semi transparent quality of my result, especially as this seems to raise the question as to whether the carriages are inhabited by passengers. I was very careful in the composition of this image to accentuate the curved diagonal of this part of the wheel, which I feel creates a visual tension. The process of solarisation has made the sky and clouds into a dark, brooding, murky background to the wheel, which again appeals to me and I hope to any viewers of this image. The image is a giclee print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Satin, an archival paper of 300 gsm. It is signed on the bottom but is also accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Each print is shipped in a tube, very carefully packaged according to the high standards of Saatchiart.

I studied for my degree in photography at the Polytechnic of Central London and also lectured in Cinema for the British Film Institute. I have specialised in digital image making for many years. My art is mostly abstract images or landscape photographs which I have transformed digitally to resemble paintings rather than straight photographs. I also create cityscapes, images of iconic local scenes which I sell to art galleries and retail outlets in my area. My approach is experimental, and when working on my images I will reject a version that doesn't appeal to my sensibilities, and I will continue to work on an image until I'm happy with the result. Some of the titles of my artwork are deliberately tongue in cheek, as in my images 'A Grave Situation' and 'One of The Beetles', or ironic as in 'Global Warming'. I try to create images that appeal to the viewer's feel for shape, colour and texture and sense of composition, or for strong graphic monochromes, so my work is motivated by aesthetics.
