London | Greenwich Peninsula Sunset & Neon Tones | Canvas Print Photograph - Limited Edition of 50

I had the great fortune to be invited to a private residence where this sublime uninterrupted view across the river Thames in south east London is readily available from the living room balcony. This vantage point is situated on the Greenwich Peninsula in the Charlton area of the borough, with views towards Docklands and London City Airport on the opposite far shore side. The Thames Barrier would also be to our right hand side of view from this particular location's orientation, but it is quite far out shot here so it is not visible in this capture. The sun had only just disappeared from view below the horizon but there was still an abundance of sunset coloured lighting and backlighting to the clouds in the sky. I hadn't planned on taking long exposure shots with my camera that day, so I didn’t bring a tripod. A tripod was however definitely required in order for any hope of capturing absolutely clean non-blurry images. As good fortune would have it though, the railings of our host’s balcony proved to be a good enough substitute tripod platform. Whilst the red lighting in the water reflection was not necessarily how it appeared to the naked eye as we saw it that evening, the neon characteristic was obtained through further exaggeration in image post-processing on the computer to enhance the already present warm evening glow. Indeed we had had an entire week of well above the seasonal norm temperatures in London and the day that this image was captured on the second weekend of September 2023 was amongst that week's series of above average temperature days for the time of year. A warm neon glow ending to the day on the calm serene contemplative waters of Father Thames, waters which were once so much busier and no doubt choppier with the busy freight vessels. A haven of tranquillity, away from the bustle of the city centre yet not far away enough for the potential malaise of isolation or loneliness to onset. A relaxing and content contrast to end the day on!
