Is it possible to paint by smartphone camera? — Yes it is!

The idea for the photo project «Slow Pix» was born in autumn 2017. I wanted to use my smartphone to capture and dispatch a daily poetic picture, using a visual language which alludes to painting. It was not clear whether it would be possible that the smartphone as a camera would allow for such an undertaking.

But I did find this visual language.

For the last two years, and every day, I have been painting a mysterious and poetic smartphone picture, and dispatched it without any editing whatsoever.
These photographs commit themselves to both the present and the absent, much like a fever curve, without ever committing themselves.

They are poetry in their own right; albeit visual poetry in which space, form and color are interdependent in an idiosyncratic way, and which evokes the beholder's own poetic narratives.

The «Love letters» exist in stark contrast to the jittery world of smartphone imagery, which we encounter on a daily basis. They are narratives originating from a tranquil, poetic and colorful world, in which visual ambiguity, reflections and a well-defined lack of focus lend themselves to create a pictorial language.

The compositions are found, not staged. They inherently reference classical panel painting.

The images are not edited whatsoever, but directly taken from the smartphone camera.

Matching the proportions of the raw photos, the selection shown here was enlarged to 30×40cm oder 60×80cm.

Viewed as diptychs, any two «Love letters» interact and are thus both interdependent and mutually amplified — much like the acts in a visual narrative.
