Move Home 1 - Limited Edition 1 of 8 Photograph

I created the photo series "Move home" in a collaboration project where I, visual artist was paired up with a New Orleans burlesque dancer. The theme given to us was Hiraeth, (hi-raeth): (n) A Welsh word for which there is no English equivalent. A deep, wistful, nostalgic sense of longing for home; a home that is no longer or perhaps never was. A yearning and wistful grief for people and things long gone. I was excited to see a different form of movement. Contemporary dance has always been the style I’ve liked to dance myself and love to watch and capture. Burlesque performance was new to me, but the artist I worked with somehow drew me into my own Hiraeth as soon as she started moving. She is sharing stories in her dance, her body takes her to places her soul yearns for. I saw a new expression of an old familiar feeling unfolding in front of my eyes, heart and lens. A selection of 6 images from this series was printed on watercolor paper, showing a delicate texture that suits the photos and the movement depicted in it.
