About The Artwork

Original photo of an Old Ceiva tree was captured in the Yucatan near the town of El Cuyo. I was driving on my way to the coast and I saw this millinery tree which was so symbolic to the Maya, in a field that was once a dense forest. I love the image and I decided to print it on Mulberry bark paper and then fix it to an old plank of wood, at least 100 years old. This combination of materials lets the viewer appreciate the merging of the ancient with the new, the now and the memory of a sacred tree.
