About The Artwork

"Penultimate landscape at the end" is a photographic project started in 2012 and carried out in the same places where the photographer lived. Through this work the author approaches a classical theme for photography: What is landscape? And again, what does make the landscape a landscape? In this case it was the same figure of the photographic witness to give a response. The landscape in fact arises where there is a partial interpretation of reality, in other words it is the result of the intervention of an observer within a context: as if to say that you don't just see the landscape, but "you live it" every time you look at it, and this act of seeing makes it ever new. To highlight this, the author avoids an objective and descriptive sight and enhances her interpretive role through an unconventional use of the camera, thus returning a vision as personal and evocative. The project becomes an intimate journey into consciousness: some extension of the photographic exposure, almost like an extension towards the past or the future in a human memory, and some images of small details like reminders of life and moments out of time. Since the landscape includes personal meanings and emotions, which are also subject - together with the photographer - to a change over time, the landscape is intended never to be definitive, but perennial "penultimate". The project was shot in 120 film format with Lomo camera (Diana).
