Rachel Alexandra was the 2009 Horse of the Year. When she won the 2009 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, she became the first filly to win the race in 85 years (the last filly to win was Nellie Morse, in 1924). She also won races in six states (KY, LA, AR, MD, NY, NJ), on eight different tracks, against fillies and Grade 1 colts and older horses, achieving a long string of consecutive wins including numerous Grade 1 stakes. Rachel Alexandra neared or broke multiple stakes records, track records and winning margin records throughout her career. On September 28, 2010, owner Jess Jackson announced Rachel Alexandra's retirement. She was bred to 2007/2008 Horse of the Year Curlin and delivered a colt on January 22, 2012. Her jockey was Calvin Borel. By happenstance, I was fortunate to meet Jess Jackson in his box before the Woodward Race at the Saratoga Springs Race Course in 2009. He allowed me to sit with him and his party for much of the afternoon, even purchasing a club soda for me. I was aware that Mr. Jackson was struggling with the effects of a dire illness yet he spirits were high and got even higher when Rachel won the race. When I photographed him in the winner's circle he was beaming. This image is printed on either archival canvas or fine art paper. Included is a personalized, signed and dated certificate of authenticity

"Mr. White’s extraordinarily beautiful photographs are extremely moving as works of art." James Kettlewell, Magna Cum Laude History of Art, Harvard University, Professor Emeritus Skidmore College. // ............................................................................. I have been a professional photographer for over 4 decades. During my early years at the San Francisco Art Institute, I had the opportunity to meet and study with world-class photographers including Jack Fulton, Imogene Cunningham, Jerry Burchard, Pirkle Jones, and visiting artists Robert Mapplethorpe, Robert Frank, and Eugene Smith. Since then my work has been published worldwide including Time/Life, Rolling Stone, NY Times, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, Forbes, and many others. I also served as a professional printer for several well-known photography clients including Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, and Francesco Scavullo. As an emerging artist, I also experienced the opportunity to meet and study the works of such talented painters as Carlos Villa, Shel Silverstein, Yanko Varda, David Best, Robert DeNiro Sr., and Guillermo Barretto. Their influence and inspiration are evident in the abstract/impressionistic work I present here.
