About The Artwork

Size: Image 20x30 cm. on 25x35 cm. paper. (The image has a 2.5cm white border on each side) ROCKING CHAIRS PROJECT: Since the revolution arrived in Cuba in 1959 many things have changed, while others remain the same. Time has passed, passes, and will pass and nothing notable has been altered in the island. ROCKING CHAIRS evidences the passing of time and the eternal waiting of Viñales’ dwellers for something new to come. A simple but useful rocking chair is the main element of this photographic series. The everyday life, the plainness of things and the characteristic light of the Caribbean sunsets show the beauty of simplicity. Empty thrones –that help to cope with the time- in contrast with the colour of the houses. These photographs were taken in Viñales, a small town located in the west of Cuba. Every evening Viñales’ neighbours gather, sway and chat as time goes by; but during the day, the emptiness of those rocking chairs still irradiates life. The project is the result of shared evenings and sway moments in good locals company. An apparent emptiness just full of a different life
