Photo by Linda Chin Selenium toned hand print on archival fibre Barbie was just a toy for me when I played with her, but as I grew up I realised that some girls thought of her as a benchmark for physical perfection. Years later toymakers also came up with the Bratz line of dolls, which presented an even more sexualised image of girlhood. It was disturbing how early kids were being conditioned to act and look more adult than they should. I think that’s only gotten more apparent and I wanted to target that message with this series, which I call Rubber rubber. I wanted to show how much sexual baggage children are being forced to bear, and how there’s very little difference between a doll and the erotic female form.
