ABOUT I grew up in Italy - a largely still patriarchal and chauvinist society - as the only male in my family, since my parents separated when I was a teenager. Beside my mother's marriage, many years later, also my sister's relationship shattered. I witnessed full of admiration how both of them slowly rediscovered themselves away from the marital life, while still remaining unquestionably committed to work and family. I strongly believe this will be a decade in which women, and in particular women of color and of other minorities, will solidify their leading role in our societies. I cherish this as a long overdue change for the better. This work is an homage to women's self awareness, self acceptance and self reliance. This picture was inspired by the pioneering portraiture works of last century's surrealist photographers. It combines my passion for black and white, minimalist photography, for painting-like aesthetics, and for simple, geometric, abstract shapes. Squares represent strength and stability (or the subconscious longing thereof) in the psychology of shapes. And cubes are what I mindlessly used to doodle on pieces of papers while on the telephone as a kid. This work is available in a limited edition of 5. This is the artist's proof. TECHNICAL DETAILS TECHNICAL DETAILS This photo - just like all my other works on Saatchiart - is printed on brushed aluminum by Whitewall - the German, award-winning photo lab renowned for its superior, gallery-quality, printing process. The horizontally brushed, metallic surface adds a characteristic flair to my images making them look timeless: old-fashioned and modern at the same time. Depending on the light and the viewing angle, the aluminum surface shimmers differently, therefore constantly altering the prints’ appearance in unpredictable ways. This is the reason why I print all of my artistic works on brushed aluminum. Prints on aluminum are thin (0.3cm), sturdy and incredibly light. Being pre-treated with UV light protects them from light damage, dust particles and moisture. As a matter of fact, not only are aluminum prints rust-proof, they are also - differently from most other print materials - suitable for bathrooms and sheltered outdoor areas. My prints -unless otherwise stated- are always fitted, as from the photos, with Whitewall's aluminum rail rectangle (depth 1.5cm) and are therefore ready to hang, vertically or horizontally. The 1.5cm distance from the wall makes up for an eye-catching 'float' effect that beautifully emphasises the print. Every single limited-edition print is numbered and hand-signed by myself.
