About The Artwork

Some events happen suddenly and vanish in very few minutes, such as this Mammatus cloud formation over the sea. This picture has been shot at 8 a.m. from Silvi, a little town near the sea in the center of Italy. Handmade in the photographer's darkroom, quality print on fiber. Front: signed with edition number on acid-free ink backing.
Verso: signed, dated and inscribed with title in pencil.
Paper: Ilford Multigrade IV Fb Fiber (Glossy), 26,1x 16 cm Limited Edition of only 10 original pieces. The artwork is not framed, but is installed by hand on a 40x30 cm (1,57 x 1,18 Inches) wide Carson museum passepartout. Each silver print is selenium toned for added archival permanence which will give many years of viewing pleasure if cared for and displayed correctly. Every Print came with the own Certificate of Authenticity, signed and dated from Francesco Mussida.

Francesco Mussida is an Italian photographer with deep knowledge in silver gelatin printing. His works on plants reflect deep attention to the way nature expresses its language through forms, movements and propagations. For these works he chose the form of the portrait as a method of all-encompassing observation towards light, subject and air. Each portrait is made in the field with the precise intention of respecting environmental influences. He chose a totally analog approach, using exclusively vintage cameras and following the methods of manual processing of film development and printing. The mission behind this choice is to preserve a natural space between observer and observed subject, avoiding any kind of digital interpretation and always keeping involved natural variables such as light, time and emotions. Since 2016 he has been teaching film development and analog printing techniques and runs a blog entirely dedicated to analog culture www.stampaanalogica.it
