About The Artwork

Printed on Moab Metallic Pearl Paper for superior details and quality and face mounted into museum quality acrylic glass. Ready to hang. This photo is part of "Frozen Spring" project which was born out of curiosity during one of arctic vortex winters we had in New York. At first I decided to check how quickly water with flowers would freeze outside during subzero temperatures, but than I was so fascinated with the results, that decided to bring this project indoors. The work starts by layering flowers, pigments and sometimes other objects in water and freezing it in freezer. 8-10 hours later, when water freezes, I take it out and photograph them in my studio using special light setup to emphasize textures and imperfections. For me, one of the best parts of this project is that it produced in collaboration with mother nature. I am controlling the flowers and water and colors of the pigments I am using, but I can never predict where bubbles will be created or cracks appear in the final ice block.
