About The Artwork

Surface Tension revels in a sense of slowness, reduction and tranquillity. Centering on organic forms, and presenting them sparingly and in isolation, the series explores my continued fascination with the human condition with particular focus on mindfulness and the mental clarity that comes from observing nature. The abstracted organic forms are familiar and hence comforting to the viewer, however the ambiguous nature of both the origins of each object and the process (photographic or painted) calls the viewer to engage with the artwork to resolve what is and how it was created.

Christopher Phillips is a photographer that works across projects that bridge both the commercial and fine art fields. His work has been published throughout Australia, Europe and the US. He has exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne and London. Christopher's personal work is an exploration of the human condition. His particular interest is in the meditative states of consciousness and how the practice of art forms that induce these states enhance our general wellbeing, our ability to focus, to feel empathy, to be less self focused and most importantly to feel a deep sense of meaning and contentment in our lives. Christopher teaches The art of meditative photography through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney as well as through the School of Life.
