About The Artwork

The car graveyard at Kyrkö Mosse in Sweden has generated strong emotions for decades and today there are two camps – the pros and the cons. The debate, in which the groups accused each other in both the national and local media of being either unnecessarily narrow-minded or of completely lacking knowledge of how old cars affect the environment, has now – finally – ended. It was only when two Swedish journalists and authors, Staffan Bengtsson and Göran Willis, reported on Mr Danielsson’s former car scrapyard in the village of Ryd that things started to happen. Then, even those environmentalists with the most strongly-held views came to realise that the cars were, in fact, part of the 20th-century history of Sweden and that this slightly surreal world of sheet metal, rust and glass was appreciated by a large part of the population. Even the internet had done its part to spread word of Mr Danielsson’s life work. Suddenly, people began to appear in the forests of Småland county, searching for the 'famous car graveyard': visitors from all over Sweden, Japan, Canada and the USA. There were Germans, Italians, Finns and Croats and they all had a single goal – to witness a unique cultural-historical treasure that does not exist anywhere else. Today, Kyrkö Mosse is protected by a 49-year special land permit and almost 15,000 people a year go on a pilgrimage to the dark forests in order to enjoy the magical atmosphere that is only offered by this one place on earth.

His second photo book "Ryd" was released in September 2011, in connection with one of the largest book fairs in Europe, and his third book, 3B7C, a photo book about the small island of Saint Brandon, Mauritius, was released in spring 2013.
