About the Artist

Alexandros Demetriades

Cyprus

I was born in 1967 in Cyprus. I attended the George Washington University in Washington D.C. where I received a BA in Business and Economics and an MBA in Finance and Investments. In 2009, I studied cinematography at New York University and upon graduating, he returned to Cyprus to commit to photography professionally embarking on both personal projects and newsworthy events around the region. I am currently a member of and serving on the board of Unframe agency.

I have won numerous awards for my work including International Photography Awards, Photo Annual Awards, Prix de la Photographie Paris (Px3). In 2012 I was nominated for the Terry Oneil Award. I have also been a finalist and winner at the New York Photo Festival and a finalist at the PhotoLucida, Critical Mass Awards amongst others. In 2014 I was selected by Molly Roberts, from Smithsonian Magazine to have his work exhibited and projected in the Weil Gallery and in the community at the Oso Bay Biennial XVIII Juried Exhibition. He was also chosen by American Photography 30 to appear online as part of the AI-AP permanent website collection. My work has also been part of Collabo-Nation! An issue about collaborative living in times of crisis, distributed in Cyprus and Venice as part of the 2013 Venice Biennale.

My work has been published in the International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The New York Times Lens Blog, Leica Fotografie International, B&W magazine amongst others.
