About The Artwork

The end of war is the performance of an act carried out with intent. But the true meaning is in the hidden power of what lies between the act of stepping on the sand and the indelible mark left in the sand of the canvas. Even in the void, there is always something. Peace may be hidden but the true power of peace does not hide, even in nothingness. It can never be touched but like the sun touches everything. There is a silence that is as powerful as the merging of the female yin of the moon and the male yang of the sun. The images document the performance on the day of the new moon on 7 April 2016 in the Parque natural dunas de Corralejo, Fuerteventura.

Biodynamic moon art started out as both an idea and feeling for the need to create art from the imaginative heart inside to produce a natural manifestation on my world outside.  I always felt separated from the work and art produced. So I sought to create my art through the experience of meditating and communing with the spirit and forces of nature in ‘present’ time. The experiment to harmonise with my unconscious invoked the female muse, the Goddess who in my case worked with the ever changing powerful moon phases. Linking with the yin energy of the moon, sometimes juxtaposed against the yang energy of the sun to expose the androgyne duality of existence. Shiva Samhita, a 500-year-old Tantric text, sees the “sun” as our solar plexus and the moon is not only a source of immortality but the “moon,” in the crown of our head. 8 was born, a symbol of life and perfection that belongs to all. For the first time, my art worked in a unified way, prior to this my art was very specific. Now my art came from the unknown but appeared to have a foundation clearly felt inside manifesting outside in a variety of ways. Biodynamic moon art allowed my work to find itself and create a meaning of its own. It also made me and my body feel different each time. On every occasion, events transpired and sometimes natural coincidences confirmed authentic interaction with the natural and the unconscious. This closeness to spirit and nature only evaporated by engaging in the ‘real world’ and this was where I noticed the difference, the disconnect, a separation. Biodynamic moon art taught me that there is tension in life but in states of meditation, there is only unity and it was possible to solidify this in art. The tension described by Hegel which western philosophy chose over Schopenhauer has no place in the arts which aspire to the highest ideals of the imaginative human spirit mind. Einstein said: “Imagination is more important than knowledge...” Einstein must have understood first hand that humans are mostly encouraged to operate with and use only 20% of the conscious mind often deterred from accessing 80% of the largely unknown unconscious. Yet the unconscious is where powerful imaginary recesses reside. Nature, the arts, playing, praying and mindfulness help access a small portion of this bountiful divine spiritual aspect. The attraction of the unconscious is that it is the uncritical and non-conscious part of all life. I like, all before me, cannot touch the unconscious.
