About The Artwork
With the advent of a heron's nest falling out of one of my trees along with found hatched eggshells on the ground, I found both props and inspiration in these objects and shot a number of narratives with them. Although awesome birds to behold, there is always relief in July when they continue on their migration; they're nesting habits overwhelming me. If you did not know the backstory, what would you think of this image? Was the model poaching or raising these fledglings? Why in such a dark environment; is there some alchemy occurring? Interpretation, as always, is left to the viewer. The image is printed on Hahnemuehle Bright White Rag paper. Image is flush-mounted to a birch panel where the edges are first painted red and less than meticulously leafed with silver so that glimpses of the red paint shows through.

Sharon O’Callaghan Shero is a photography / photomontage artist. Perhaps it is in spite of growing up in the blue-color, south side neighborhoods of Chicago, that the artist is drawn to subjects that are pastoral and fantastical. Although seemingly gentle topics, the city’s crusty influence simmers beneath the first-glance, skewing approach and final outcome. Shero’s work has been exhibited in many solo and group shows throughout Texas. Beyond the Lone Star state her work has been featured in various shows in Louisiana, Maine; Washington, and Vermont. Many of her works are in private collections located throughout the United States and Europe. The artist graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelors of Science degree in Architecture, and holds a Minor in Psychology from the University of Illinois. Today she resides in Dallas, Texas.
