About The Artwork

Tribeca is one of the great New York neighborhoods. It is special in its landmarks and parks that are located at the odd junctions created by it's asymmetrical relationship with the New York grid system, its also an area of streets with names rather than numbers, and due to it being very rundown and ignored by 1970's and 80's property developers it's fabric is wonderful historic architecture. This piece is an anatomically correct map/contact sheet made up of 90 separate images shot on film with a Hasselblad camera and 50mm lens. My intention is the work should be hung slightly off axis just as Tribeca is in relation to the rest of New York's street map.

I am a photographer and have been based in Hong Kong, one of the greatest cities on Earth, for most of the last 25 years. My work is on display in Peninsula Hotels in Paris, Chicago, and Hong Kong, at the Norman Forster designed Cathay Pacific Lounge in Hong Kong, in the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and Grand Hyatt Macau, and in the homes on many many collectors World Wide. I have recently shown at the AIPAD Photography Show in New York, where my work was reviewed by Artnet, El Pais and Eye of Photography. Here's the Artnet story; https://news.artnet.com/market/aipad-2019-photography-highlights-1508914 It was in New York in 1999 that my interest in cities crystallised with two years spent there developing my photographic approach which generally favours pre- visualisation of the image and camera-only manipulations to create subjective but recognisable records of our time which I hope are a testament to my belief that cities should be vibrant, enjoyable, sustainable, democratic places that enable a positive future for us on this planet. I love to collaborate with designers and art consultants and an very happy working on commissions.
