About The Artwork
Tokyo, Tsukiji Market, I spent two nights there, but I could have stayed there for weeks: every square centimetre, every object, every face, in my eyes were photos and extraordinary tales. An absolutely fascinating place: the perfect market, chaotic and functional. Is the essence of Japanese food culture: naturalness and freshness, manipulation and transformation at the edge of the twisting. I saw almost gutted fish but still breathing, seafood that still seemed to be alive but, instead, they were already in boxes of polystyrene, the legendary tuna reduced to giant icicle, and then, the Japanese themselves, absolutely easy and absolutely proud and very determined in their work from the merchant, to the labourer, till the customer.
