About The Artwork

This work was inspired by the photo cubist collages of David Hockney as well as the Starn Twins and Jennifer Bartlett to name a few. This artwork is made up of 144 4x6 inch prints carefully put together using 100% archival tape. Below is a statement about the work. 4x6 is a series of 4’x6’ images constructed by 4”x6” pieces. The concept involves deconstructing an image piece by piece and putting it back together in a way that explores the relationship between time, movement, and memory. These works compel us to ask how we remember a particular landscape or architectural scene and recreate this in our memory as almost puzzle-like pieces. In the process, I view the color, perspective and details of a place or subject. In this series, I explore the formal artistic medium of a large-scale photograph in contrast to the informal 4”x6” snapshot. Through this contrast, I engage in a conversation with the viewer about his or her perspective of a scene.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

During my twenty five years of making art I have been focused on the interdisciplinary approach through painting, photography, video, and sculpture. My work is interdisciplinary both in thought, being influenced by one art form while working in another, and medium, bringing together different art forms. The consistent thread through my creative projects is a process that integrates different disciplines through deconstructing an image and reconstructing it in a different form. In much of my work, the process is tactile and meticulous: through cutting, hole punching, digitally cropping scanned negatives, and taking apart an image and taping it back together. Through this process, I strive to create work that presents a different narrative from how the original was captured. More of my work can be viewed on my website at www.zachai.com.
