For me, crafting scenes with precision and sensibility has a direct relation to my interpretation of the metaphors embedded in each of the objects and acts in each scene. I aim to draw the attention of the viewers through the stylized look in my photography, hoping that it will lead them to question the content of the photos beyond their initial visual impact. This photo is from a series inspired by Labyrinths (1962) by Jorge Luis Borges. I do not intend to re-create Borges’ short stories visually but rather to create a similar world of fiction, which functions under a specific set of imaginary rules. Borges claims that all fantastic literature works follow four essential strategies: “the work within the work, the contamination of reality by dream, the voyage in time, and the double.” Based on that, I aimed to create an aesthetic system, in which what matters most is not the ideas themselves, but their suggestions and resonances, the excitement and drama of their possibilities and impossibilities. “ When I Met Myself,” is a series of photographs portraying the life of a boy and a girl who live in a fictious world that metaphysically follow different rules than our planet earth’s rules. In their world, there are two versions of each self that exist simultaneously from two different ages. For example, a self at the age of seven could exist with its future self at the age of twenty. The two selves grow at a different speed which results in both selves at a certain moment of time to be the same exact age resulting in an exact duplicate. The boy and the girl are portrayed at different stages of their lives with their duplicates. There are 13 photos in the series and there are 5 editions of each photo. This photo is number 1_0005 and edition 3/5 + 2AP, printed on matte premium lustre paper. The photo is available in framed option of matte glass, 20x40 mm black frame.
