About The Artwork

The White Queen, portrayed as a naïve and kind being, emerges in this piece with majesty, without any throne to elevate her, thus defying the convention of monarchy. Wrapped in a white dress, her apparent purity is highlighted, contrasting with her inner complexity, creating an ethereal atmosphere that underscores her presumed innocence. The image reveals a visual narrative that explores the duality of sweet innocence and subtle perversion that characterize this fascinating character. However, the charm of the image is revealed in its darker details. Although the White Queen holds a red lollipop in her hand, an object commonly associated with childhood and joy, her seductive gesture as she brings it to her mouth reveals a longing to explore her most forbidden pleasures and a willingness to defy the expectations imposed by her position. This lollipop, like a stain on her white dress, symbolizes the coexistence of sweetness and perversion in the Queen's nature. The absence of a throne in the composition suggests that the White Queen does not rely on the trappings of power to exert her influence. Instead, she is portrayed as a being who explores her own duality.

Carlos Henaine was born in 1971 in Puebla, Mexico, and holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. His self-taught training as a designer led him to establish EXPLORARE, a design studio that began its activities in 1997, coinciding with the internet boom. In its early days, the studio focused on multimedia design and web development. From the year 2002 onwards, he decided to expand the studio's activities to meet the demands of visual communication, including corporate identity, editorial design, packaging, and environmental design. In 2008 and 2011, he was honored with the Quórum Award and has won a silver mention, three bronze mentions and a total of ten finalist works in that contest. In 2009, the INBA awarded him an honorary mention in the Fifth National Design Biennial. Between 2007 and 2015, he won seven first places in the a! Diseño Awards. In 2012, he was selected to be part of the first Mexican Design Directory 2012, co-edited by Centro and ProMéxico. In 2014, he was invited to participate as a judge in the a! Diseño Awards. In 2016, he received an honorary mention in the first edition of the Diseña México Award. To date, his work has been published in nine books by HOW and Rockport Publishers, internationally recognized authorities in the field of graphic design. As a specialist in visual communication, he currently explores different paths in the expression of visual arts, using photography as a medium to create art. He portrays human reality through the rawest and most authentic emotions, capturing the interplay of darkness and light in people. As an emerging artist, he has participated in several group exhibitions and presented his first solo exhibition in 2023 at a renowned art gallery in his hometown.
