Winter walking - Limited Edition 1 of 25 Photograph

Over the past few years, I have been documenting winter in Moscow. Often I am drawn to the architecture and the various random combination of elements that make for unusual compositions- and reveal something of the essential look and feel of the city. Also, I walk and take photos of the streets more generally, looking for those moments when person and background merge to form a momentary image that sums up the feeling of a scene. Street photography in this sense involves more than a sharp eye for compositions; it involves a consideration of all the movement going on around, and an anticipation of when and where those elements will come together. The chaos of the city is caught in a silent, still frame. I aim for these frames to distil something essential about the place I am seeing in live action before me. On one hand, I am looking for perfect harmonies from the everyday city which therefore tend towards the abstract. They are measured and patiently composed. On the other, I am keeping one eye out in readiness for harmonies that incorporate the city's inhabitants: a vital aspect, of course, in the story of any place. These photos rely on others going about their days; they can only exist in the spontaneity of the moment. These photos are available as non-limited prints. It's therefore more straightforward to share your space with people from other, perhaps unknown, places, on their way somewhere, with an unknown story to keep to themselves and for us to guess at. All my photos are printed on the highest quality papers, typically Somerset Photo Satin 300gsm, Hahnemühle Fine Art Bartya 325gsm or Canson Infinity Photosatin 270gsm. I will choose the most appropriate paper for each print, in conjunction with the print studio I use in London. Of course, other print sizes and printing options can be arranged.
