Yellow Feather is from the Yellow Feather Series, which was inspired by fragments of the Alexander Calder Sculpture, Two Disks that sits in front of the Hirshhorn Museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Employing a theoretical Cubist approach, I layered a series of images and then subsequently added and reduced contrast, color and color saturation until I was satisfied with the image. During that process there was a point where the image had a resonating appearance of a feather and the color yellow was a standout. Thus, the title Yellow Feather emerged and with subsequent explorations of theme and image, there was a preponderance of the color and the image. I stopped after 4 images that appealed to me.

I am a photographic artist and photography instructor. For years I produced black and white photographs with very little interest in color work. Recently I have expanded and redefined my work to include black and white and color photo-etching and the layering of my photographic images. By adding color, adding and reducing contrast and repetitive layering of similarly layered images, I am able to create entirely different images that have increased depth and perception. I am trying to produce a cubism effect through a modern abstract process. Photography, reaches significant highs as an art form when it illuminates the world around us. The artist's unique perspective illuminates that kernel of our being - our collective and universal being. That image can be a constant reminder of the uniqueness of the universe and the pervasive beauty that surrounds us.
