Scarlet-Barred Cinnabar, Yellow Shell and Latticed Heath flutter in my garden’s aviary Incognito as a mottled moth but to children and I they are fairy And when such a scale-winged creature rests on my skin’s sun-dappled porosity My Beloved, you’ll feel a tip-toe breeze gliding on your own skin indubitably For you and I are connected electromagnetically Connected by the circuitry of an alluringly ancient SE If, say, when you smile at someone with genuine sincerity The air around you quickens pace and wraps the smile with dexterity Changing hands, this air pours itself from one street to another’s buzzing locality Travelling thus until the smile is brought forth to a watery estuary On guard and ready to carry the happy parcel are the sea’s myriad family Of sea urchins, mermaids, caravans of darkish green algae Blessed by the lotus scents of brine and fishermen’s sea-shanty Your smile is greeted eventually by England’s rich forestry Until in bronze delight it streams into my bedroom’s repository There the smile that you had smiled in the bosom of your far-off country Mingles into the curved boat of my dimple’s fleshy cavity And perplexed I become for a second as to why I smiled spontaneously Then it hits me!
