People often ask, 'are these movie stills?' "It's the film in your mind", I reply. And, YES - I shoot all the images in my work. My work explores kinetic energy, e-motion (energy in motion), interplaying narratives as a pathway into vivid sensory and episodic memory formation -the locking of ideas and objects to a single place and time. In this KINETIC SERIES, The viewer is invited to enter a vivid world ( simulating memories and elevated fantasies), hinting at personal narratives. Multiple images and words evoke lucid recall. By Integrating stimuli, text, fragmented elements and isolated images, perception and memory surface in a hybrid state. Past and future remembrances dynamically bounce in present time. In physics, the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. Having gained this energy during its acceleration, the body maintains this kinetic energy unless its speed changes. Inspired by Diane Arbus, Cartier-Bresson and mentor, artist/art-writer, John Coplans, Yael roamed the streets of Manhattan, Paris, and southern California shooting street life and edgy portraits, developing her approach to 'the decisive moment'. Her editorial photography and portraits have been published worldwide. Yael always wanted the pictures "to move". She started shooting 'directed' situations both in in the studio and on location, creating 'material' for her collage/ multiple images & text work. At times the words precede the images. Yael currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA
