This etching—Print Number ONE of FIVE in the 3rd Edition—is based upon a 1962 black and white snapshot executed by the artist’s mother in Camden, New Jersey. It features the artist at age nine, dressed as Abe Lincoln, in preparation for the Sacred Heart Grammar School’s Halloween Parade. All FOUR editions are limited to just five etchings each and were printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Di Falco is a Monitor in Fleisher Art Academy’s OPEN STUDIO IN PRINTMAKING, where he employs a freestanding Charles Brand Flatbed Press. This etching is the best of five prints in the THIRD of FOUR editions. The zinc etching plate required four Nitric Acid baths, and the artist incorporated the techniques of intaglio, aquatint, drypoint, and Chine colle. Media include a blend of oil base etching inks, RivesBFK white paper, and Thai mulberry bark paper (infused with Japanese Kozo fibers and treated with methylcellulose). The image size corresponds to the etching plate size, which measures six inches wide by nine inches high, or 15.240cm by 22.860 cm. The framed and matted etching measures twelve inches wide by sixteen inches high.
