Clare Whitney Artist Statement Using traditional Intaglio etching techniques Whitney has developed her own unique style that is distinctly recognisable amongst her peers. Delicately making each plate Whitney creates her story using a series of symbolic motifs. Hand colouring each plate has bought her two loves, painting and printmaking together, adding another dimension to her finely detailed demigods and totem animals. Whitney's fascination with the Bird- Human relationship throughout history's story telling, mythology and symbolism has directly influenced her own work. Using different birds to represent the feminine and masculine. Different species depict different characters and play an essential narrative role throughout her work.
