This is a fine art original print is of a rare and precious environment – Blanket bogs are fascinating places. Composed of three seporate drypoint plates with photo etching and carborundum printed on Hahnemuhle etching paper. The blanket bogs on Dartmoor are of international importance. These magnificent mires support remarkable plants, rare wildlife and the sponge-like sphagnum mosses in shades of green, gold and red create a bouncing blanket across the land. This amazing absorbency plays a vital role in water/flood control, plus the resulting peatlands are also a vital carbon store. This landscape deserves to be further studied and valued. This complex, handprinted artwork is part of a body of work produced for the Devon Wildlife Trust’s Magnificent Mires Project.
