About The Artwork
“These are the dreams of my subconscious and my heart.” My best work is done when I follow when I loosen my grip and allow dreamscapes and fantasies to flow through me. When I try to lead, the dream fades, and I am lost. I believe that the painting will create itself, if I open up and let my hands be guided, allowing the connection to be made; the destiny may yet be unknown, but when I trust, I know I will get there. This process is the gateway to my truth, but I cannot deliberate nor pretend to know anyone else’s truth. As an artist, I am not usually the one that handles that, and assuming so would be dishonest and prejudice the art. Being a child from a world torn apart by war, my family uprooted from our homeland, transplanted to new soil, my life informs me, and my love of the beauty of nature fills me with inspiration, solace, and hope, keeps my faith strong. Idealism? Perhaps, but idealism is the sun and the water that keep hope alive, and without hope, there is nothing. When I am through, my brushes soaking in water, the painting speaks for itself. Swirling bold colors, slashes of black and white each stroke fueled by spiritual bliss exposes the fury, the sadness, and the beauty of my soul, and then with the collaboration complete, I can only listen. Image is a giclée print on natural white paper 300 gm, matte, 100% cotton, acid and lining free, archival paper using pigmented inks. The Art of Fadhel Dabbagh My name is Fadhel Dabbagh, and I am an artist. My paintings are not simply an extension of me; they are me. In them, I travel through the dreamscapes and fantasies that, having bid their farewells to yesterdays, still linger in my heart, holding fast to the beloved memories of my sweet childhood. My deep admiration for natural beauty springs to life in my paintings using organic shapes and natural colors. Trees, leaves, branches, flowers, and fruit combine to create an emotional dreamscape of spiritual rhythm. Love and longing, loneliness and fulfillment are my paintings' feelings. They are, to me, personal and honest. Triggered by a single image, my imagination draws me into my inner world. For me, the experience is like reaching into the darkness, discovering alien worlds, and exposing them onto my canvas through my brush strokes. Combining these shapes from a far-distant universe with the deformed reality we're living each day, the paintings feel as if they exist on their terms, torn between the poles of pain and hope. I let the process flow. In each case, however, it is evident that the darkness is offset with images of beautiful flowers and cheerful colors like the innocence of a small boy dreaming away in peaceful countryside, long ago and far away. It is a story with no words told in color, folding all the collected elements into a moment of spiritual bliss, exposing the enthusiasm and courage I hold deep within my soul. A dream? Perhaps. Once I am through, while my brushes are soaking in colors, the painting speaks for itself, and I can only listen.
