About The Artwork
Costela de Eva is part of a series, which started with the participation in an exposition in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2015, where I first combined leaves with a figurative body. Since then I made a series of six works, all exploring the figure within the leaf, as well as the leaf as a figure as part of the composition and also as the frame for the figure within. The style of the lines is a result of my earlier abstract works, with the influence of the patterns of the Brazilian indigenous The leaf itself is called Costela-de-Adao (literal: the rib of Adam, botanical: ceriman leaf), but as the figure within is female, this original woodcut received the name "Costela de Eva".
