Derek Walker is a contemporary artist who explores his own reluctance to create art. Creative culture is powered up, existing by posting images of work through the web. Anonymity is now a temporary condition and visibility is the definition of success. We have dreams and goals that we strive to meet, and when we don’t meet them we have no one else to blame but ourselves. After almost fifteen years absence from making art and previous narratives lost, destroyed or stolen as a result of perhaps careless and hapless approach to his career, current interest in Walker’s work has sparked new narratives to be made and older works to be reimagined. In his current fly poster series Walker appears to lash out at the success of his contemporaries through loud threats and single punch one liners. ‘I look at these images I think of fulfillment, I look at these statements and consider personal satisfaction and unfairness.’
