About The Artwork

I was formally trained in the intaglio technique of printmaking but I really got to know the process well when I was assigned to teach silkscreen classes at my college. This print is part of a series of silkscreens I did called "Plant Whispers". The plant form in this piece is an egg covered with Geranium leaves. It rests in a house or shelter. There are connotations of travel as the print contains the words "say not, travel far". The machinery could be a piece of navigational equipment. There are tiny images of lingerie floating on the surface as well. I have used an unusual technique of rubbing the Rising Stonehenge paper with a mixture of wax and pigment and then silkscreening images over the top. The hands are created by blocking out the second layer of hand rubbed color with cut out mylar placed over the surface. The print is a bit lighter than it appears in this image but still rich in color.
