About The Artwork

The idea for this work came up to me from the short story Deadeye Dick by Kurt Vonnegut. There is a briefly mentioned character, a painter, who couldn't draw hands very well so he mainly draw figures with hands in their pockets.

Humor is a key element in my practice. I’m interested in recontextualization and formation of fake meaning. My works are inspired by pictures, movie stills, upside down thinking, a sentence from a short story, mental archetypes, everyday situations, public spaces, jokes and pranks and always add pinch of humor, because for me is important not to take life, or art, too seriously. Places, body parts, fragments of life – everything invites the viewer to formulate a narrative. Through my work I explore physical and spatial relationships between people and places, capturing moments in my paintings and drawings that speak to the universal notions of global identity, memory, and displacement.
