Art Description

Printmaking: Etching, Aquatint, Drypoint, Ink, BLACK ETCHING PAPER on Paper, Other.

This image is based on the Northern Renaissance painting (oil on panel) by Gerard David that was executed in 1505 (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City). I decided to use a special mixture of black inks (oil-based, Charbonnel brand from France) and print this etching on black paper (Stonehenge brand, United Kingdom), thereby achieving a sensuous and unique visual effect. I used the techniques of INTAGLIO and AQUATINT. The print measures 15” by 11”. This is the first edition; there will only be three editions of ten printed. The SECOND and THIRD EDITIONS will be printed at a later time when the lunar positions are ripe for the selected colors. This will be around the First Full Moon of autumn in 2019. These remaining editions will be in different color ink/paper combinations.
