About The Artwork
This hand-made lino print is based on an 18th century statuette by Falconet and images of Gunnera found on the web. Gunnera, or ‘giant rhubarb,’ is found near ponds and rivers as it likes a lot of water, so it seemed appropriate for this nude lady dipping her toe in the water. There is some charm in what the Japanese call wabi-sabi, which according to Wikipedia is ‘a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.’ In this and similar artist’s prints I am aiming for near-perfection in the nude figure, emphasising the pure line and form, and am more tolerant of accidental effects in the foliage or landscape. As this is a hand-made print, there will be minor variations in the limited-edition prints.

Who am I? As Alice said, there have been so many changes I'm not sure any more. I used to believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast, but now I am quite out of practice. Regarding art: after the Dadaists it seems that art can be almost anything. Personally, I prefer to pursue beauty. A work of art can be figurative or abstract, but art has the deepest effect when it requires little or no writing to explain it and when it is beautiful rather than shocking. My current work is an exploration of simplicity: lino prints in one colour. It either works or it doesn't and there is nowhere to hide.
