Patterns have always fascinated me and driven my work. I enjoy the aesthetic of repeated designs and working with motifs. Conceptually, my work with patterns initially stemmed from my experiences living and working in Bangalore, India this past summer. India’s rich cultural diversity afforded me an abundance of visual and stylistic inspiration, which I channeled into my work with abstract patterns. My first pieces were inspired specifically by traditional clothing and architecture I observed while in India, though my work has since changed to include a wider variety of aesthetic influences.

I am particularly inspired and influenced by the work of Polly Apfelbaum, Beatriz Milhazes and Margaret Lanzetta. Apfelbaum’s work particularly informed some of my earlier decisions about pattern, color and composition in my drawings. Milhazes’ and Lanzetta’s paintings and mixed media work motivated me to experiment more and explore the aesthetic potential of the patterns I had created—to rethink, deconstruct and reconstruct visual motifs and patterns in an innovative way.

This print comes matted with a foam board backing; the dimensions listed correspond to the size of the mat board (mat is 3 inches all around).
