"Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore; Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he; But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door — ... Perched, and sat, and nothing more. ... Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore. Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore — Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." This block was carved in 2020. This is a made to order print wit a maximum edition size of 100. Block printed and hand colored on beveled sugar cane (and archival) printing paper. I use biodegradable plastic and recycled cardboard to package my prints (since 2010). A little about the artist Rebecca Cristante (myself): Growing up in a rural town in south Georgia gave me an ample first hand education of the natural world. In college I immersed myself in religious studies and ecology, fortifying my foundation of respect for the unseen connections of everything in us, and around us, which is often the theme of my work. I started focusing primarily on printmaking full time in 2010, when my first son was born. While printing has become my day job, I spend as many evenings and weekends as I can in books and paintings, some my own, some someone else’s. I make my prints the old fashioned way, with hand drawn sketches and hand carved blocks and fragrant ink. It is truly an honor and a dream come true each time I address an envelope to send my art to you. Instagram: @rebeccacristante www.rebeccacristante.com
