About The Artwork

'The Ballad of the Moon' symbolizes the concept of a “bull market”, a market where optimism reigns under investors, and the value of assets is on the rise. The asset in question here is cryptocurrency, bitcoin specifically. The bullfighter represents the almost maniacal optimism associated with this asset, guiding the bull (the market and its participants) along the way. The Japanese style of the bullfighter is due to the pseudonym of bitcoin’s author, Satoshi Nakamoto. It is one of the prints made for the exhibition 'To the Moon', which illustrated the relationship between money and power, and deconstructed the complex narratives and systems that underpin both. As part of the exhibition, a sound scape was created by Daan Hendriks, representing the chaos, fear and unbridled optimism that are all present on a trading market. Multiple wildlife calls were blended to mimic the nature in which humans trade. Giclée print on Somerset velvet paper with silkscreen gilding and archival varnish. 60cm by 60cm. Signed Limited Edition of 15.
