ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is a 5 colour hand-pulled screenprint on 300gsm Somerset textured paper. The dimensions are 76cm x 56cm and it's a signed Edition of 30. I wanted to do my take on a Government Health Pamphlet, something as ridiculous as the "Duck an cover" campaign of the 1950's. So a smiling retro woman dons a helmet and air tank as a solution to breathing the polluted air of London. I wanted the bright, vibrant colours to mask darkness of the message. This piece took on a whole new meaning when the Covid pandemic shut down London, and the world.

Ewan Taylor AKA Redbellyboy is an award-winning film director & artist who specialises in screen printing. He draws inspiration from pop culture, film, graphic design and loud music and tries to squeeze as much of it into his work as possible. It’s a never ending work in progress. He’s recently been selected by Saatchi Art to participate in The Other Art Fair. He sells his work through redbellyboy.com, Print Club London and Saatchi Art. His most recent short film project Tiny Cow, sees him sharing executive producer credits with his wife, the films writer Nicky Waltham. Tiny Cow stars Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Oliver Maltman (Another Year), Caroline Quentin (Bridgerton) & Paul Whitehouse (The Death of Stalin). He’s written & directed several short films, including the RTS nominated The Case Of William B, which won Best Short Drama at the Glasgow International Film Festival. Ewan’s commercial work has seen him nominated at the Cannes Lions & on the winning side at The New York Film Festival. Ewan graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and now lives in Hackney, London with his collaborator & wife Nicky, his beautiful baby boy & two pesky cats. He likes really really loud music, curry and kittens. He dislikes mosquitos and writing about himself in the third person.
