1957, The Hague, The Netherlands. Sculptor (ceramist) and painter. Contact is the key word in the visual work of Vera Zegerman. Contact between contrasts, contact between humans, contact between humans and art, contact between past and present, are all themes that keep recurring. She paints, creates installations, does art projects and makes ceramic objects. She enjoys working with clay and makes unique hand-shaped objects that are asking to be touched. People will get in contact with the smooth glaze and the rough skin. They can also feel contrasts between hard and soft by the application of artificial fur or rice paper. These objects are mostly inspired by organic shapes like fossils. These fossilized traces of past life forms are a base from which images are created by baking stone and so they can be seen as new forms of life. This is the circle of life. With glossy glaze she gives it its distinctive color accents. Her colorful semi-abstract paintings are created from a desire to hold landscapes she has seen during her travels. She is fascinated by the variety of colors and textures in those fields that often have been made by man. Still we would describe it as "natural". Even as a child she sat in the back seat of her parents car and watched for hours the passing landscape and human intervention on this.
