I observed a family of sparrows over the year, raising their young, dust bathing, feeding and fighting. They all seemed to have different characters of their own. This piece was inspired by one fledgling sparrow who would patiently wait for either parent to come feed or water it, while its other siblings were collecting for themselves. It would sit on a stem of a Valeriana Officinalis, bending it with its weight, watching and waiting. One day it caught sight of me and turned it's head back with a sort of lazy expression, as if to say 'What me!?'. It soon became my favourite for its inquisitive laid back nature. Giving it its name 'A Patient Wait of a Fledgling Sparrow'.

I created this piece using a number of technique including fabric painting, embroidery, applique and three dimensional textile techniques.

All my work is framed, signed and mounted where possible. Due to the three dimensional nature of my work, most are displayed in box frames. This allow the piece to be viewed at different angles making the most of the detailing and gives a professional finish. Each frame is custom made by framing professionals in the UK, giving the best possible finish for the individual piece of artwork. Pieces are framed with a 2mm Crystal Clear ' XT ' Plexiglass, which is the modern, clean & safe acrylic alternative to traditional glass glazing. It is crystal clear, shatterproof and conforms to the latest BSI safety standards. Each piece of framed artwork comes with a hanging kit.

This piece is framed in a white frame with a white mount trimmed in white which really brings out the colours. For more photos of this piece and it in its frame please visit my website www.nsltextileart.co.uk

As a keen artist you will often find me wondering the British countryside, overseeing with a keen eye mother nature at her finest, snapping and sketching the characteristics of all kinds of creatures. From the smallest insect hiding in the warmth of the long grass to the vast landscapes that cover the horizon. I ask why look anywhere else when such beauty is to been seen? I use a wide range of techniques to create three dimensional textiles that capture aspects of nature that I have found beautiful. This beauty I find serves as a reminder of the importance of the natural world, and how we should endeavour to preserve it, this idea has particular importance in society today.
