Adam(Posthuman) Sculpture

Mythological conception of the creation of the person is a historical coordinate which sets a scheme for development of a whole world. The starting point begins with demiurge or The Creator whose will endows material world with moving power and fulfill a chain of acts. For a long time a human being consider itself as the pinnacle of evolution, the final limit but at the same time it was always frustrated with its spiritual and physical imperfection which leads to a death. Any kind of transfiguration experiment with body like with something definitive is an attempt to overcome the loss of initial divine perfection. Posthumanism and transhumanism as the “preachers of the new faith” proclaimed the dawning “posthuman” stage of history. In order to achieve individual immortality a deity was moved from the beginning of times into the future and was realized as Posthuman being. Theorists suppose that new type of creatures will appear at the point of space and time where science discoveries, nanotechnologies and genetic engineering meet. Those beings are so majestic and unconceivable that humanity will worship them as gods. Reasonable to question what place is assigned to us? Who are we? Are we just a historical variable, the beginning? A transition that is overcoming its limit? We offer to a viewer to see and appreciate the fact that a human being is already acts in some new way, as an inventor, as a designer and an artist. An exhibition space stage-by-stage describes appearance and development of Posthuman being. It is based on fundamental concepts that now open for rethinking: ‘corporeality’, ‘language’, ‘emotions’, ‘person’, ‘matter’ and ‘creativity’. Since we live in the moment of total interpenetration of virtual and physical worlds an essential part is given to a language and word. Humanity has created language to communicate with a machine so now virtual world is full of memories and images, elements of new creativity, moral and social interactions. Language is becoming a separate part which has its own destiny. Gurgen Petrosyan works with plastic images, reflecting new materiality and rethinking biological, religious and metaphysical knowledge about a person. His works induce to examine human nature as design and synthetic art.
