About The Artwork

This is a bronze sculpture which depicts Alcmene, who was fancied by the god Zeus and subsequently gave birth to the hero Heracles. The jealous Hera, wife of Zeus, sent two snakes to kill her offspring but were dispatched by the baby. this is one of a series of mine titled 'The Philandering of Zeus'. One of the snakes can be seen wrapped around Alcmene's leg.
