About The Artwork
Inspired by Memento Mori, “Altar” is about the inevitability of death, the persistence of life, and the balance between the two. The title is meant to evoke ideas of sacred space, and the elements I chose work together as an allegory of the eternal cycle of transformation and rebirth. But these symbols have dual meanings. The protective eggshell is cracked, leaving its creative potential exposed and vulnerable, while the wasp carries a message of danger and disruption. The serpent embodies the regenerative life force of nature, but its venom can be a life-saving antidote or deadly poison. And the pomegranate, like the serpent’s venom, holding a promise of new beginnings or ill fate, speaks to the existential precipice that humanity faces and our hopes for the future.
