Hello ! This work is a copy of a sculpture found in the grave of a Greek nobleman. The original has not survived ... Now seriously. This sculpture is carved from a century-old, pine beams overlapping houses. Everything that could happen to this tree has already happened. The wood was petrified and the carving yielded very hard. At first glance it resembles early Greek, polychrome sculptures. But I did not set the task to do as the old masters. Sculpture of the ancients, covered with all the putty, and only then ended the carving and painting was carried out. On the contrary, I love the open areas of wood that I cover with transparent dyes. Moreover, if you look closely, I bump into the depths of the sculpture as much as possible, and this adds height to the relief and expressiveness. These are the cardinal differences from the work of the old masters. The sculpture composition is quite complicated and for this I made a sketch from clay and only then took to make it in wood. One can say in one work - two works. Now, as for the finish. Even before painting the sculpture, I nourished the wood with cellulose, liquid varnish. I did this for as long as the wood stopped absorbing, diluted with a thinner of varnish. The last layers, after drying, I made an oil, half matt varnish. After half a year, the lacquer will "sit down", and then this coating is indistinguishable from waxing. But this coating is much stronger, as, varnish, crystallizes in the pores of the wood. The cost of the sculpture includes delivery, making the box and the efforts to create documents for the export of works of art. With great respect, Nikolai Dudchenko.
