ABOUT THE ARTWORK
14"W x 10"D x 19"H 24 and 22 gauge non-tarnish copper, amber, and antique brass wire mounted on mopani wood. In the woods behind my home a few deciduous swamp, and live oaks compete with the towering loblolly pines for sunlight. As autumn progresses, deciduous trees display colors that can set the woods afire making a striking contrast against their evergreen neighbors. "Blaze" captures one such tree. Most Bonsai have a definitive frontal view. Blaze is eye catching from every angle. This soaring, colorful piece makes a statement. Blaze is a large, wire bonsai of an informal upright in fall foliage on a magnificent driftwood base. A sturdy, tall tree that displays well anywhere. I have studied the art of bonsai for over to ten years. My wire bonsais developed as an offshoot from searching the internet for bonsai wire for some new saplings. My love affair with trees began at an early age. I spent a great deal of my childhood in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. It was only natural that, as an adult, I gravitated to the art of Bonsai. I now live in South Carolina, surrounded by beautiful southern trees, and I have discovered the sheer joy of sculpting trees from wire. From those first simple wire trees to my current work, I have grown in love and skill of this art form. I am self-taught, and this schooling will last my lifetime. In the beginning, three local galleries carried my work, today I sell mainly by direct commission and through the internet. My trees are now in homes from coast to coast, north to south in the US. As of 2016, they have spread to Canada --proof that the language of trees is international. Video of each tree are posted on my website:
