I create objects from raw wood. The wood is taken from a small forest in the north east of the Netherlands. Working in the woods, cutting trees for preservation of other trees, has inspired me over the years to create these objects. I take the wood to Amsterdam, kill the beetles in a freezer and work on the objects in my studio. The name is HAKHOUT. HAKHOUT is love for wood and geometry. It is chopped wood in straight objects. It is the power of the ax and the precision of the tape-measure. It is chaos and order. It is a battle. Hence my motto: Chop or be chopped!
