About The Artwork
CINDERELLA'S CARRIAGE was created while I was an artist-in-residence at 701 Center for Contemporary Art, Columbia, SC. When there I was given a large studio in where I worked, and my "found objects" were on the floor around me. In the past I had fashioned bird cages from the armatures of old lampshades as well as making art out of old baby carriages. I had some leftovers of each of these on the floor adjacent to each other. All at once I saw how these two different objects could be joined into a new type of carriage, a simple, open, bare-boned type of carriage that a contemporary Cinderella might want to travel in. A carriage which she could propel toward the type of life she wanted to lead. This carriage includes keys to the many possibilities open to her for finding her own happiness. CINDERELLA'S CARRIAGE is made from a lampshade armature, carriage wheels, a shoe stretcher, keys.

Multidisciplinary artist Janet Orselli creates sculpture and assemblage, drawings, collage and site-specific installations. She’s had over fifteen solo exhibitions, including OK Harris Works of Art, New York City, Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston SC. Orselli has shown in numerous group exhibitions both regionally and nationally. She was awarded a national Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship and three North Carolina Regional Artist Project Grants. In 2018 she was selected as the Artist-in-Residence at 701 Center for Contemporary Art, Columbia, SC where she completed a body of work for a solo exhibition. A recipient of an MFA degree from Clemson University, Orselli teaches drawing and lives in Columbus NC.
