Made from real tennis shoes and layers of thick blue paint. Artwork Details: Originally this piece was part of a larger installation in an empty retail space. From the exhibition statement: "Clothing Store takes its cue from the hustle of a retail store, but slows it down and merges with the home with its intimate personal spaces rendering a seeming hybrid of both a closet and a public store." This pair of shoes, like other elements of the installation, stood as a still, ghost-like object of what often makes up a very busy chaotic space. Viewers were welcome to touch all elements in the space. Artist's Inspiration: During the artist’s years living in Brooklyn, she was drawn to the excessively painted surfaces in the subway and old apartments. The phenomenon is quite common and thus overlooked by the busy New Yorker. The artist observed these quiet and still entities in a bustling landscape and adapted the method to her practice, coating various objects and spaces in thick paint.
